Title: Mein Kampf enseigné aux enfants d’Alsace et de Moselle (1940-1944)
Abstract: De juin 1940 a l'automne-hiver 1944-45, l'Alsace et la Moselle n'ont pas ete 'occupees' par l'Allemagne nazie comme l'a ete (dans des conditions variables selon la periode et les zones geographiques concernees) le restant du territoire francais. Trop souvent, on ne souligne pas assez les specificites de l'annexion de fait de l'Alsace et de la Moselle. En effet, malgre l'absence de traite international, les trois departements du Bas-Rhin, du Haut-Rhin et de la Moselle ont ete pleinement integres a la Grande-Allemagne nazie des l'ete 1940. Une nouvelle administration a ete mise en place tres rapidement, en Lorraine comme en Alsace, couvrant tous les domaines, et en particulier l'enseignement. Des la rentree scolaire de l'annee 1940/1941, l'ecole de ces trois departements francais est radicalement transformee. Elle est germanisee : la langue d'enseignement change avec le retour a la langue allemande. L'ordonnance d'aout 1940 va jusqu'a imposer la « germanisation des prenoms, noms et toponymes ». Mais ce n'est pas le seul ni meme le plus important changement qui intervient : la region est aussi nazifiee. C'est en cela que la periode de l'annexion nazie 1940-1944/45 se distingue radicalement de la precedente periode allemande 1870-1918. Une vision du monde raciale et raciste reposant sur une opposition fondamentale entre la « race nordique » et les Juifs guide l'ensemble de ce processus de nazification. Germanisation et nazification I La mise en place d'un enseignement en langue allemande dans les ecoles primaires d'Alsace et de Moselle ne representait pas a priori une difficulte insurmontable dans la mesure ou la grande majorite de la population parlait des dialectes germaniques (pour l'essentiel les diverses formes de francique ou d'alemanique). Les instituteurs dans leur grande majorite, du moins ceux qui restaient ou qui etaient revenus apres l'evacuation, etaient de facto bilingues. Une partie d'entre eux, les plus âges ayant meme ete formes avant 1918 dans le cadre allemand du Reich d'alors. Enfin, l'ecole francaise, marquee par un jacobinisme etroit, n'etait en place que depuis une vingtaine d'annees. La scolarisation primaire des generations precedentes (entre 1870 et 1918) s'etait faite en allemand et, il faut le rappeler, la langue ecrite usuelle durant l'entre-deux-guerre, aussi bien dans l'usage prive (correspondance, journaux intimes, etc.) que dans l'usage public (presse, tracts, affiches, etc.), notamment dans le mouvement ouvrier et dans les milieux chretiens, restait tres majoritairement la langue allemande qui n'etait en aucun cas une langue etrangere. Pour caracteriser succinctement les transformations intervenues en Alsace et en Moselle a partir de l'ete 1940, maints ouvrages, articles, ou textes commemoratifs mettent l'accent sur cette seule dimension de 'germanisation'. La 'propagande' est certes toujours denoncee, mais parfois tres rapidement et de maniere allusive, et meme sans souligner ses caracteristiques essentielles. Pour illustrer plus precisement notre propos, nous prendrons l'exemple d'une plaquette, tres documentee, publiee en 1995 pour commemorer la Liberation du pays de Bitche.
