Title: Synthesis and Chemistry of Agrochemicals II
Abstract: Chemical pest control is a critical resource for worldwide food production and public health. There is little doubt that it will remain so for the foreseeable future, but it is also clear that progress is needed to sustain and enhance its contributions. Achieving this progress depends to a great extent on the synthesis of new agrochemicals, a field that is more dynamic today than ever before. On the one hand, it is benefiting from significant advances in science. On the other, it is evolving in response to rapid change in other forces affecting it, including regulatory policies, resistance of pests to chemical control, and rising standards in the marketplace. In this chapter, we assess how these developments have shaped current agrochemical research, and what may be expected in the near future.
