Title: Changes in the Distribution of the National Income in the United Kingdom Since 1860
Abstract: The 'distribution of the national income' is a phrase which can be interpreted in various ways, depending on the definition of income and on the distributive classification. For the present paper the basic concept adopted is the national income at factor cost, measured before current transfers (whether of dividends and interest paid by companies and public authorities or of grants to persons from public authorities) and before payment of taxes on income. It thus relates to income as it is initially generated in the economic process of production. The main emphasis is on the gross national product but estimates of net national and net domestic product are also considered.
