Abstract: This article examines the Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) Act, a federal transportation bill signed into law in December 2015. The author discusses the law's rail provisions, which focus on the improvement of rail infrastructure and safety and establish a federal-state partnership to bring passenger rail assets into a state of good repair. The article includes an interview with Catherine Conner, Manager of Federal Government Affairs at WSP | Parson Brinckerhoff, who offers her thoughts on how the FAST Act's money will be allocated and what it means for the rail transit community.
