Title: Competitive Advantage of the Normal Leaf Morphotype in a Mixed Population of Pisum sativum L.
Abstract: Normal and mutant leaf morphotypes of Pisum sativum were grown in a mixed population for five years. The normal leaf form rapidly dominated the population. After five years only plants with no tendrils or reduced stipules survived in appreciable numbers in addition to the normal type. The function of tendrils and stipules is discussed. An examination of seed yield components indicated competition was effective in the vegetative growth stage.
