Abstract: Religion may be defined as a set of beliefs, feelings and dogmas that define the relations between human being and divinity or a collection of belief systems, cultural systems, and worldviews that relate humanity to spirituality and, sometimes, to moral values. The importance of religion in the existence and development of human beings cannot be underestimated. As a value system, it occupies a central place in the minds of its believers and serves as an instrument for harmony. In recent times however, religion has become a tool for conflict. Believers resort to violence to defend and promote the cause of their religion. In Nigeria, religious conflicts continue to cause loss of lives and wanton destruction of property. This paper is an attempt to examine religious conflicts in Nigeria.
