Title: DENTAL HEALTH OF PREGNANT WOMEN: 2. DENTAL AND PERIODONTAL HEALTH IN AN ANTENATAL CLINIC POPULATION
Abstract: A survey of the dental health of 303 patients attending a hospital antenatal clinic is presented. The average DMF (decayed, missing, filled) score was 19.1. Only 88 of the patients had no decayed teeth, and 31 of these were edentulous. The average number of decayed teeth was 2.8. Some form of treatment was required by 85% of the patients, and it was considered to be required urgently by 35%. These findings would appear to represent the end result of years of failure in the application of dental health measures.
