Prolonged-gradual felling was introduced there at the end of the last century and they were assigned for uneven fir forests of the second (II) and third (III) groups. Forestry estimation of felling types is not only of scientific but of practical interest. The objective of researches was to determine forestry efficiency of prolonged-gradual felling (PGF). An itensive thinning on the first stage and especially disregard of felling technologies result in considerable damage and destruction of previous generation undergrowth. However, despite a high intensity of felling, the growing stand left after cutting creates a defensive canopy for a fir undergrowth that surely affects its safety and viability. After PGF the plantations dominated by fir trees are formed with a composition of 10P + B,OS to 6P4B OS, with a fullness of 0.4-0.8. After industrial felling pure fir stands are formed on 21.7 % of all areas. Mixed stands are formed at other areas where 40 % is represented by birches and aspens. After experimental felling fir stands with a single infusion of deciduous trees are. Natural fir regeneration under a canopy is regarded as good. The total quantity of undergrowth 10-15 years after the first stage of PGF is 3.8-11.3 thousand pieces per ha. Left to grow further, the young generation trees numbered 300-500 species per ha in 35-45 years restore their initial reserve. An adaption period of fir undergrowth to new conditions after PGF depends on its age. Prolonged-gradual felling corresponds to the nature of uneven-aged fir forests. Its forestry efficiency and validity of use in Rudny Altai is fully proved by scientific researches.Read More
