Title: Principles of treatment for temporomandibular joint ankylosis.
Abstract: An understanding of the growth and development of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is necessary for successful treatment of TMJ ankylosis. The concept of a growth center in the condyle is probably misleading; instead, the soft tissues of the orofacial region seem to provide the primary growth forces. As a result of this concept, methods of treatment should be reexamined.
