The intensity values of the pixels in the missing area are expected to be associated with the pixels in the surrounding area. Interpolation-based methods that can solve the problem with a high accuracy may become inefficient when the dimension of the data increases. In this work, we propose an image inpainting method which represents a high dimensional data in lower dimensions using High Dimensional Model Representation Method (HDMR) and performs image inpainting for rectangular regions with Lagrange interpolation. Proposed approach works only on rectangular regions due to a constraint that comes from the structure of the HDMR method. Experimental results show that the proposed method produces better results than the well-known and pioneering total variation-based image inpainting method in the literature.Read More
