Title: [Curcumin inhibits the proliferation of cultured human fetal retinal pigment epithelium cells].
Abstract: To investigate the effect of curcumin on the proliferation of human fetal retinal pigment epithelium (hfRPE) cells in vitro.Subcultured hfRPE cells were treated with different concentrations of curcumin (2.5, 5, 10, 20 microg/ml) for 24 or 48 hours. MTT assay and flow cytometry were performed to evaluate the effect of curcumin on the proliferation and cell cycle of cultured hfRPE cells.Curcumin was effective in inhibiting the proliferation of subcultured hfRPE, the IC50 value at 24 and 48 hours were found to be 14.27 microg/ml, 12.7 microg/ml, respectively. Cell cycle analysis indicated that CUR blocked cells in G2/M phase.Curcumin can inhibit the proliferation of hfRPE cells by cells cycle arrest.
