Title: Who Draws the Lines? Moving Forward Without the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea
Abstract: This paper examines the history of the law of the sea and the Arctic Council with particular attention to the United States' role in the creation of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). It contemplates the benefits of United States' ratification of UNCLOS, but also considers alternatives in which the United States could substantiate their claim in the Arctic through arbitration or agreement.
