This patient has returned t...A patient with chronic short bowel syndrome has now been treated successfully on a home parenteral nutrition (HPN) programme for 250 days and is continuing on this therapy. This patient has returned to work and has achieved a satisfactory lifestyle. She is maintained by HPN at home each night while asleep. No major complications have been encountered. Home parenteral nutrition would appear to offer such patients a satisfactory lifestyle and to enable them to live normally at home and to rejoin the work force. The technique also appears to have considerable economic benefit as lengthy and costly periods of admission to hospital for prolonged total parenteral nutrition (TPN) therapy in hospital are avoided.Read More
