Title: Evaluation and Testing of Travel Demand Software
Abstract: Transportation planners are frequently confronted with issues and concerns related to varying levels of analysis detail. Although microcomputer packages exist to analyze regional, corridor or small area problems, they are treated as separate problems. In fact, traffic from new developments can have significant impacts on a regional roadway system, and overall regional growth can affect small area traffic operations. The tools to analyze these interrelationships are generally not available. This paper summarizes the procedures used by the Minnesota Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPO's) in defining a desirable transportation planning process. All MPO's involved in the study represented urban areas of less than 200,000 persons.
