Abstract: The activities of aldolase (ALD), pyruvate kinase (PK), glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH) sorbitol dehydrogenase (SDH), and NADP dependent isocitrate dehydrogenase (ICDH) have been determined in homogenates of porcine liver prepared by an ultrasonic disintegration technique. Activities with this method were similar to those obtained by glass/teflon pestle homogenization, and ultraceutrifugatiou of the crude supernatant resulted in only minimal decrease in enzyme activity. The assay system / or PK ivas modified by the addition of fructose 1,6-diphosphate to obtain maximum activity of this enzyme. Analyses of tissue from the 4 major lobes of the liver revealed some variations in enzyme values but these were not significant. Apart from G6PDH, levels of activity of the enzymes studied were different from reported values for other species such as rat, man and ruminants, although PK activity was similar to values given for the sheep.
