Title: Diagnosis and treatment of organophosphate and carbamate intoxication.
Abstract: Organophosphate and carbamate insecticides are the most common forms of pesticide poisoning. They present with a distinctive clinical syndrome that is, nevertheless, sometimes difficult to recognize. Early treatment is important, and specific antidotal therapy is available using atropine and pralidoxime. Important complications that need to be monitored during therapy may involve the central and peripheral nervous system, lungs, and heart.
