Abstract: This paper will take the reader through the mathematical journey that lead from Fermat’s ‘conjecture’ of what became known as the Fermat’s Last Theorem in 1637 to its proof by Andrew Wiles in 1994. Fermat’s Last Theorem states that nonzero integer solutions to the equation a n + b n = c n only exist for n less than or equal to two. This paper will outline the basis and the use of the theory needed to prove Fermat’s theorem.
