Title: [Neuromyelitis optica is a frequently seen inflammatory demyelinating disease].
Abstract: Neuromyelitis optica (NMO) is an inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system with autoimmune characteristics. Serum immunoglobulin G autoantibodies have been identified in the majority of NMO patients with the water channel aquaporin-4 (AQP4) as their main target autoantigen. Clinical criteria have defined NMO and NMO-spectrum disease. The clinical features include inflammation of the optic nerve.
