Title: Data on income distribution in Dominican Republic
Abstract: This paper contains an evaluation of the income distribution data from a 1976-77 survey on household income and expenditure in Dominican Republic. This survey is used because of the scarcity of data on income distribution in the Dominican Republic. The ENIGF data was biased toward larger-sized and rural households. Also, household incomes were under-reported. The estimates derived were based on data adjusted to account for some of the biases. The estimate based on these adjusted data showed that there was greater inequality in household income distribution across household groups than was implied earlier. On the other hand, the estimate of per capita income distribution across individual household members showed almost the same degree of income inequality as was reflected earlier. The pattern of income distribution by household for the whole country generally follows that of urban areas, revealing more inequality than in rural areas.
