Title: A SIMPLE PROCEDURE FOR THE RELIEF OF TRICHIASIS AND ENTROPION OF THE UPPER LID.
Abstract: The surgical procedures for the relief of severe trichiasis and entropion are numerous. Many of these procedures have been developed for use in cases where the scarring of trachoma has caused inversion of the lashes, scarring of the tarsi, and distortion of the upper lids. Treatment in these cases varies from the insertion of a free graft of mucous membrane or tarsoconjunctiva into a split border to the tarsal fracturing operations involving the use of a complicated suture system and incisions at different levels into the skin and tarsus. It is the purpose of this paper to describe the application of the uniquely simple procedure of Wies1to the upper eyelid. When this method was first introduced for an entropion of the lower lid, a major criticism offered by a discussant was that of overcorrection. This suggested its usefulness in the difficult problems of the upper lid. Technique An incision
