Anokhin has given an impetus to the understanding of the body's integrative activities. The functional systems are shown to be units of the activities. Individual functional systems in their characteristic processes of self-organization and self-regulation, hierarchic, multi parametric and consecutive interactions of the body's functional systems have integrative properties. The theory of functional systems have disclosed many unknown brain integrative properties: the specificity of ascending activating influences of subcortical formations on the cortex, various patterns of excitation convergence on cortical neurons, the specific features of chemical postsynaptic processes that are characteristic of each functional system. Particular emphasis is laid on the informational mechanisms of the integrative activities of functional systems.Read More
