Title: Clinical observation of elderly patients with liver cancer treated by ultrasound-guided percutaneous absolute ethanol injection
Abstract: Objective:To explore the curative effect of ultrasound-guided percutaneous absolute ethanol injection (PEI) on elderly patients with liver cancer. Methods: Twenty-seven elderly patients were injected absolute ethanol by ultrasound-guided whose symptom, size of tumour, color doppler flow imaging (CDFI), biopsy and survival rate of AFP were compared after PEI. Results: The symptom of patients after PEI was catabatic obviously, the diameter of tumour was decreased significantly, the 91.3% nodules were disappeared, the disappearance rate of the blood flow of tumours was 90%, no enhancement in tumors was 97% by CT, degenerative necrosis was found in all liver tissue by liver biopsy, the rate of decline in AFP levels was 85.9%, the six months and twelve months survival rates of patients were 94% and 88.9% respectively. Conclusion: PEI by ultrasound-guided is an effective, satisfactory short-term effect and safe treatment for liver cancer, which can improve clinical symptom, make degenerative necrosis in liver tissue, prolong survival time.
