Title: Heavy metals pollution and their potential ecological risk assessment in the surface sediment from Shenzhen Bay
Abstract: The contents of Zn,Cu,Pb,As,Cd and total organic carbon in surface sediments from Shenzhen Bay were measured. The content and spatial distribution of heavy metals was presented. The relevance with total organic carbon was discussed. Potential ecological risk for the heavy metals was assessed by using the method of potential ecological risk indices. The results indicated that the average contents of Zn,Cu,Pb,As and Cd were 307,79,75,23 and 2.26 mg·kg-1,respectively.The contents of Zn,Cu,Pb,Cd had similar distributions, all declined from northeastern to southwestern in Shenzhen Bay. The contents of Zn,Cu,Pb,Cd showed the positive correlation with total organic carbon. Single-factor of heavy metals indicated Zn and Cd were in a high pollution degree,Cu,Pb and Zn were in a moderate pollution degree. The order of pollution was CdZnPbCuAs. The integrated pollution index of Shenzhen Bay was 15.53,which was in the high pollution degree. The potential ecological risk of heavy metals in surface sediment of Shenzhen Bay was at a medium level, and the order of potential ecological risk was Cd As Pb Cu Zn. The potential ecological risk of Cd was the highest.
