Title: Study of efficacy of bronchial artery embolization in treatment of severe hemoptysis
Abstract: Objective:To investigate the short-term and long-term efficacy and the key factors associated with relapse of bronchial arterial embolization(BAE) in the treatment of severe hemoptysis. Methods:Bronchial arterial embolization was performed in 57 patients(bronchiectasis 20 cases, pulmonary tuberculosis 31 cases, lung cancer 5 cases). All cases were followed up for 3~18 months to observe the clinical efficacy. Results:Hemoptysis was completely controlled immediately affter BAE in 48 cases(84.2%),alleviated in 7 cases,2 were completely controlled by BAE again.Hemoptysis was recurrent in 2 patients with pulmonary tuberculosis 6 months later and in 1 patient with lung cancer 9 months later. All cases were completely controlled by BAE again. Conclusion:BAE is a less invasive, effective, safe and simple method to controll hemoptysis.Controlling the primary disease can effectively reduce recurrence.
