Abstract:A panel method using Rankine singularities for calculating steady three-dimensional lifting potential flows about hydrofoils moving beneath the free surface in deep or shallow water is presented in th...A panel method using Rankine singularities for calculating steady three-dimensional lifting potential flows about hydrofoils moving beneath the free surface in deep or shallow water is presented in this paper.The thickness and lift effects of the hydrofoils are represented by a distribution of Rankine sources and normal dipoles on its surface.The free surface is represented by a distribution of Rankine sources.The strengths of these singularities are determined by satisfying the corresponding boundary conditions and Kutta condition at the trailing edge. Numerical procedure is developed for hydrofoils in steady motion at small angle of attack beneath the free surface.
