Abstract:In order to understand the effect of alternating magnetic field on the dynamic performance of a disk-type magnetorheological(MR) fluid damper based on shear operation,the dynamic character of a flexib...In order to understand the effect of alternating magnetic field on the dynamic performance of a disk-type magnetorheological(MR) fluid damper based on shear operation,the dynamic character of a flexible rotor supported on the disk-type MR fluid damper was experimentally studied under sinusoidal magnetic field.The motion orbits,vibration time histories and imbalance response curves of the rotor system at different magnetic field frequencies and densities were measured and compared with those at steady magnetic field.Results show that the magnetic field frequency has significant effect on the dynamic performance of the disk-type MR fluid damper.Increases in magnetic field frequency decreases the capability of the dis-type MR fluid damper to reduce rotor vibration.The dynamic character of the rotor system is the same as that without magnetic field when the magnetic field frequency is over a critical frequency,and the sinusoidal magnetic field cannot control the dynamic performance of the disk-type MR fluid damper.The critical frequency of the sinusoidal magnetic field increases with increasing magnetic field density.Read More
