Title: Microsurgery and Early Stage Rehabilitation Therapy for Spinal Cord Tumors
Abstract: Objective:To discuss the effect of microsurgery and early stage rehabilitation treatment on motor function and activities of daily living(ADL)in patients with spinal cord tumor. Methods:Among 27 cases of spinal cord tumors in this group, there were 12 cases of tumors in cervical region,7 cases of tumors in thoracic region and 8 cases of tumors in lumbar region. They were treated with microsurgical resection and early rehabilitation treatments(including the physiotherapies, acupuncture, massage, motor function and ADL function training, psychotherapy etc). The movement level score and Barthel index were calculated and compared pre-/post-operation and pre-/post-rehabilitation treatment. Results:It was found that there was no significant difference in the movement level score and Barthel index pre-and post-operation in 27 cases. However, there was significant difference in the movement level score and Barthel index in 27 cases pre-and post-rehabilitation(P0.01).Conclusion:Spinal cord tumors could be safely resected by microsurgery and early rehabilitation treatment is beneficial to the post-operative recovery of patients with spinal cord tumors.
