Title: Antagonistic effect of Xiang-Zhen-Gu-Bao on cancellous bone structure destruction due to prednisone in rats
Abstract: Objective To observe the effect of Xiang-zhen-Gu-Bao on prednison-induced destruction of cancellous bone structure in rats.Methods Twenty-four 3-month-old male SD rats were randomly divided into the three groups of the control,the hormonal and the treatment group.The hormonal group was given prednisone 4.5 mg/kg twice a week,the treatment group was given Xiang-Zhen-Gu-Bao 5 ml/kg(100%) 6 days per week.After 90 day,the rats were killed.The cancellous bone at the fifth lumbar vertebral body of rats were observed with the use of scanning electron microscope(SEM).Results In comparison with control rats,the trabecular bone of rats received prednisone were manifested with the thinning,roughening and lacunare of the Xurface.The trabecular bones of rats treated with Xiang-Zhen-Gu-Bao are thick,its arrange ment was in good order and connected each other closely.Conclusion Xiang-Zhen-Gu-Bao prevents that prednisone causes changes in the three dimensional structure in cancellous bone,keeps bone normal in the mechanical strength and avoids fracture.
