Title: Advances in downhole catalytic upgrading of heavy oil under steam injection conditions
Abstract: The downhole upgrading process of heavy oil involves reactants, catalysts and processing conditions, etc. The influences of these factors on the upgrading of heavy oil are comprehensively reviewed. The results indicated that the suitable hydrogen donors were of liquid state and the proper catalysts were homogeneous under the steam injection conditions.Since the dehydrogenation of cyclohexane could take place over catalysts under the steam injection conditions,it may be a potential hydrogen donor with feasible economy. The research results demonstrated that the mineral materials in oil-bearing formation have some catalytic effects on upgrading of heavy crude oil, therefore, these mineral materials could be used as the catalysts in downhole upgrading process of heavy oil, keeping the crude oil from pollution and also simplify the operation.
