Title: Correlation Between Grain Yield and Main Agronomic Traits of Upland Rice
Abstract: An analysis were conducted of the correlation, path analysis and stepwise regression between the main agronomic traits and grain yield of 139 accessions of upland rice. Relative importance of 10 main agronomic traits contributed to the grain yield was estimated. The agronomic traits, i.e. filled grains per panicle, seed setting rate, total grains per panicle, flay leaf length, and panicle length, were found to be closely related with the grain yield. The stepwise regression analysis showed that flay leaf length, effective panicle per plant, seed setting rate and filled grains per plant had higher positive direct effect on the grain yield in the order of direct path coefficient of seed setting rate total grains per panicle flay leaf length effective panicle per plant. It is concluded that agronomic traits of rice such as more effective panicles per plant, more total grains per panicle, higher seed setting rate and longer flay leaf length be taken account of in the breeding programme for high yielding upland rice.
