Title: Synthesis of vanillin 1,2-propylene glycol acetal catalyzed by iodine
Abstract: Vanillin 1,2-propylene glycol acetal was synthesized through the condensation of vanillin with 1,2propylene glycol using iodine as a catalyst.The effects of the molar ratio of reactant,the amount of catalyst,reac tion temperature and reaction time on the yield of product were discussed.The results showed that the optimized reaction conditions are as follows: the molar ratio of vanillin(0.1mol)to 1,2-propylene glycol(0.18mol)is 1∶1.8;the amount of catalyst is 1.2g,reaction temperature is 60 ℃ and the reaction time is 20 min.Under the optimum conditions mentioned above,the yield of vanillin 1,2-propylene glycol acetal reached more than 91.3%.
