Title: Clinical evaluation of amlodipine combined with enalapril in treatment of elderly patients with hypertension
Abstract: AIM: To investigate the efficacy of amlodipine, enalapril, a nd amlodipine plus enalapril on elderly patients with hypertension. METHOD S: 100 cases were randomly assigned to two groups: 50 cases treated with 5 mg qd of amlodipine (amlodipine group), and another 50 cases treated with 10 mg qd enalapril of (enalapril group). After two weeks, the cases that blood pres sure was not decreased significantly were added enalapril 10 mg qd in amlodipine group and added amlodipine 5 mg qd in enalapril group for two weeks. RE SULTS: After two weeks and four weeks, the total effective rates were 62 % and 94% (P 0.01 ) in amlodipine group, respectively, and we re 60% and 96% (P 0.01 ) in enalapril group. No difference sh owed in the two groups. No severe side effects were found. CONCLUSIONS: Amlodipine, enalapril, and amlodipine plus enalapril can effectively dec reased blood pressure in the elderly patients with hypertension.
