Title: Precocious Puberty:Recent Advances in Diagnosis and Etiology
Abstract: Precocious puberty is a disease in growth and development process which is characterized by the advanced appearance of secondary sex characteristics.Maturing earlier than one's peers has negative consequences in final height and psychosocial health.This paper reviews various definitions of precocious puberty and elucidates the theory of precocious puberty in pathogenesis and classification.The present situation of different types of precocious puberty in pathogenesis,diagnosis and differential diagnosis are elaborated.Etiology of various types of precocious puberty and progress in diagnose including auxiliary examination and laboratory test are well elaborated.Controversial results concerning ovaries and uterus ultrasound in diagnosis of precocious puberty still exist.With the development of laboratory tests,some assays such as osteocalcin and alkaline phosphatase are present.More clinical researches are needed to prove the diagnostic value.
