Title: A comparative study of fluoxetine augmented with risperidone in the treatment of refractory depression
Abstract: Objective To study the efficacy and side effects of fluoxetine augmented with risperidone in the treatment of refractory depression. Methods A total of 92 patients with rifractory depression were randomly divided into study group(fluoxetine augmented with risperidone) and control group(fluoxetine) for treatment of 12 weeks. All subjects were assessed with Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression(HAMD),Clinical Global Impression(CGI),Asberg Rating Scale for Side Effects at the end of 2nd,4th,8th and 12th week. Results The rates of decreased scores of HAMD at the end of 8th week were(31.85±12.78)in study group and(19.00±11.88) in control group,at the end of 12th week were(48.46±20.75)and(29.54±16.85)respectively,there were significant differences between two groups(P0.05).At the end of 8th week, the scores of CGI were(2.31±0.95)in study group,(3.15±1.06) in control group and at the end of 12th week were(2.00±1.00)and(2.92±1.19)respectively,there were significant differences between two groups(P0.05).No significant difference in scores of Asberg Rating Scale for Side Effects were found between two groups(P0.05).Conclusion Fluoxetine augmented with risperidone is effective in the treatment of refractory depression and doesn' t increase side effects.
