Title: Antagonistic effects of selenium and vitamin C on cytotoxicity of arsenic to rats
Abstract: Objective To investigate the effect of different concentrations of sodium arsenite on the reactive oxygen species(ROS) and lipid peroxidate(LPO) of the lymphocytes of rats cultured in vitro and the antagonism of sodium selenite and vitamin C(Vit.C).Methods The lymphocytes of rats were isolated from the peripheral blood and cultured with sodium arsenite under 37 ℃.The ROS content was detected by DCFH-DA;The content of LPO was detected by fluoresce method. Results The contents of ROS and MDA increased significantly when the sodium arsenite was above 10μmol/L;After pre-treatment of sodium selenite for 24 hours, the contents of ROS and MDA decreased in sodium arsenite of 10μmol/L.Conclusion Sodium arsenite can induce oxidative stress, and antioxidants can antagonize the cytotoxicity of arsenic.
