Abstract:According to the theory of ETS, the short crack characteristic length a0 to study short cracks initiate from notch root was introduced, and then it was associated with the fatigue design concept of sh...According to the theory of ETS, the short crack characteristic length a0 to study short cracks initiate from notch root was introduced, and then it was associated with the fatigue design concept of short crack to further improve the security of components. It is shown that the notch sensitivity factor q value can be calculated by considering the characteristics of the notch geometry and load conditions as well as the basic mechanical properties of material such as its fatigue limit and crack propagation threshold. Compared with the empirical formula of q this method has dramatic advantages. Moreover, the allowable stress of short cracks can be calculated with the help of short crack theory, which is helpful for the security analysis of the strcucture. Besides, environmentally assisted cracking problems from the aspect of mechanics by assuming as short fatigue cracks can be analyzed.Read More
