Title: Effects of Atorvastatin on Expression of ICAM-1 After Cerebral Ischemia/reperfusion Injury in Rats
Abstract: Objective To investigate the impact of atorvastatin on the expression of ICAM-1 in the rat's brain tissue after ischemia/ reperfusion(I/R) injury. Methods Rats were subjected to cerebral I/ R injury through the occlusion of the middle cerebral artery.Neurological deficits were determined according to the Longa′s score.The expression of ICAM-1 was detected by immuno-histochemical technique.The effusion of PMNLs in brain tissue was evaluated by HE staining.Results The expression of ICAM-1 in the ischemic territory increased after cerebral ischemia(P0.01), and peaked at 24h after ischemia.Atorvastatin treatment decreased the expression of ICAM-1(P0.05),inhibited the effusion of PMNLs(P0.05),and improved the Longa′s score(P0.05).Conclusion Atorvastatin-calcium protects the brain tissue against ischemia reperfusion injury through inhibiting the expression of ICAM-1 after focal cerebral ischemia reperfusion in rats.
