Title: The Two Meanings of Pleasure——The Ethics of Epicurus
Abstract: It is generally believed that the ethics of Epicurus is egoistic hedonism. On the one hand,Epicurus considered seeking pleasure as the highest goodness of human beings and believed that all pleasure was based on satisfying one's desires of sensory organ. On the other hand,he valued a kind of static pleasure which means checking all the desires and pleasures with our reason.Epicurus' ethics have something very similar with Aristotle's.I think Epicurus' aim is to solve some serious problem of his times by spreading his ethics. However, epicureanism means pursuing the pleasure of sensory organ today.
