Title: Research on Soil Properties of a First-rotation Chinese fir Plantation of 29-year-old
Abstract: The soil properties of a first rotation Chinese fir plantation of 29 year old before felling in Xiayang Forest Farm,Nanping,Fujian, were investigated by permanent plot sampling. The results showed that the soil in this trial site, with site index between 18 and 22,is fertile and fineness for Chinese fir cultivation.Nutrient concentrations of available K were high, hydrolyzable N medium, and available P poor for tree growth. There was not a significant deterioration in the soil properties compared with the evergreen broad leaved forests.Organic matter, hydrolyzable N,available P,available K,pH value, exchangeable H, exchangeable Ca,exchangeable Mg,and total N decreased obviously as soil depth increased, and hydrolyzable N,available P,and available K were accumulated in the surface layer of soil.Soil bulk density increased significantly as soil depth increased.Hydrolyzable N,available K,pH value(water),exchangeable Mg,and total P decreased significantly as site index increased, demonstrating that soil nutrient concentrations are not always positively correlated with the growth of trees.
