Title: Progress on Citrobacter freundii Pathogenicity in Animals and Humans
Abstract: Citrobacter freundii, which distributes extensively in the nature,is a kind of typical human-domestic animal-fish opportunistic pathogens and generally can not cause animal and human disease. In recent years, strong virulence strains frequently cause septicemia and acute death of animals, especially for aquatic animals.Citrobacter freundii can also cause human diarrhea, food poisoning and secondary infection.Citrobacter freundii is likely to harbor theβ-lactamase genes and the virulence genes of cfa,ST,SLT while infecting animals and humans. In a word, humans have no full knowledge on pathogenicity of Citrobacter freundii and the pathogenicity is getting greater. As a result, the control and prevention of animal and human disease can not ignore Citrobacter freundii. The review summarized the progress on Citrobacter freundii and focused on the pathogenicity in animals and humans in recent years. On this basis, more practical problems and prospects about Citrobacter freundii were also discussed. The main objective of this article was to draw researchers' attention on the pathogenicity of Citrobacter freundii.
