Title: Percutaneous nephrolithotomy in lateral position lithotomy:Report of 83 cases
Abstract: Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of percutaneous nephrolithotomy(PCNL) in lateral position. Methods Eight-three patients with renal calculus from June 2008 to October 2010 were treated by PCNL in lateral position. There were 60 males and 23 females. Forty-three patients got stones in the left kidney, 30 in the right kidney, 10 in both kidneys. Of which one patients had solidary kidney. Results One case was converted to open surgery and 2 cases with residual calculus for second stage surgery, while 80 cases were treated successfully and completely, the operation time was between 60-180 minutes(average of 92). Hemoglobin declined by 8-27 g/L postoperatively, no complications occurred. Catheter was removed 1-2 day later, and patients were discharged while the fistula was removed 2-5 days postoperatively. Double-J stent was pulled out in 4 weeks after the PCNL. Conclusion Because of the less invasion, fewer complications, higher stone free rate and faster recovery in lateral position PCNL, this surgery should be widely applied.
