Title: Effect of root canal lubricant on the detection of intra-canal bacteria
Abstract: AIM: To investigate whether root canal lubricant could facilitate the removal of intra-canal bacteria.METHODS: One hundred anterior teeth diagnosed as chronic periapical periodontitis were prepared to F3 using hand-used Protaper by crown-down technique, with or without root canal lubricant.Immediately before and after preparation, paper points were dipped in the canal for 30 seconds, then inoculated on medium and cultured under appropriate conditions.CFU were counted to investigate the ability of root canal lubricant to remove intra-canal bacteria.RESULTS: Root canal preparation with mechanical method could reduce the number of bacteria in root canals of both group(P0.05).Furthermore,the CFU of the root canal lubricant group was significantly less than that of the control group without lubricant.CONCLUSION: Root canal lubricant could facilitate removing bacteria in root canal during preparation procedure.
