Title: Expression of osteopontin in laryngeal carcinoma
Abstract: OBJECTIVE To study the osteopontin (OPN) expression in laryngeal squamous cell carcinomas and its correlation with clinicopathological tumor features and CD44v6 expression. METHODS Immunohistochemistry and reverse transcription-PCR were used to study the OPN expression in 40 laryngeal squamous cell carcinomas and adjacent tissues. RESULTS ①The positive rate of OPN mRNA in LSCC and the adjacent tissue was 90.0 % and 17.5 % respectively, and the positive rate of OPN protein was 77.5 % and 10.0 % respectively. ②The OPN expression levels were significantly correlated with tumor stage, grade and the presence of lymph node, not correlated with age, gender and tumor primary site. ③The expression of OPN was significantly correlated with the expression of CD44v6. CONCLUSION OPN expression was higher in LSCC than in adjacent tissue, and was paralleled with CD44v6 expression. OPN maybe directly associated with the development of LSCC.
