Title: Effect of Pre-oxidation by Permanganate Composite Chemicals on Chlorine Consumption in Disinfection
Abstract: Jar tests were made respectively for lake water and reservoir water,in order to investigate the effect of pre-oxidation by permanganate composite chemicals (PPC) on chlorine consumption rate in the process of water disinfection and the mechanism was discussed. The result showed that after pre-oxidation by PPC,chlorine consumption rate is reduced significantly, and duration of residual chlorine in the process is over one time longer than that in conventional process. From the concentration of organic matters and formation of chloroform, and the variation of algae around treatment,it was found that pretreatment by PPC can raise the removal efficiency of organic matter and algae and decrease the concentration of precursors reacted with chlorine, and thus reducing the residual chlorine consumption rate.
