Title: Expression of EphA_2mRNA and VEGF in human hepatocellular carcinoma and their relationship
Abstract: Objective To clarify the expression of EphA2mRNA and VEGF in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and explore their relationship. Methods The expression of EphA2mRNA was determined with in situ hybridization and that of VEGF with immunohistochemistry in cancerous and adjacent tissues from 53 cases of HCC. Results The rate of expression of EphA2mRNA was significantly higher in HCC tissue than in the adjacent tissue (86. 79% vs. 69. 81%, P0. 001). The rate of expression of VEGF in HCC tissue was 75. 4% (40/53) and there was no expression of VEGF in the adjacent tissue. The expression of EphA2mRNA and VEGF in HCC was markedly correlated with tumor cell grade (P0. 01 and 0. 05). EphA2mRNA level was positively correlated with VEGF level (P0. 01). Conclusions EphA2mRNA and VEGF are over-expressed in HCC and the over-expression is closely related to the malignant behaviors of the tumor. Furthermore, there is a significant relationship between the expression of EphA2mRNA and that of VEGF in HCC.
