Title: An Analysis of the “Attributive Verb + Noun” Pattern
Abstract: The “attributive verb + noun” (AV +N) pattern is defined in this paper. It is held that the pattern is characterized by its modifier + noun construction where the attributive verb has the functions of a verb. The characteristics of such a pattern and the reasons for the formation of them are examined hereafter, including the internal and syllabic structures of the attributive verb, the semantic features of the noun that the verb modifies, and the close relationship between the noun and attributive verb.
