Title: Clinical Analysis of Risk Factors of the Patients with Posttraumatic Epilepsy
Abstract: Objective:To explore risk factors of posttraumatic epilepsy(PTE)in order to direct the prevention of PTE.Methods:The clinical data of 325patients with traumatic brain injury, who were treated in the department of neurosurgery of our hospital, were investigated. The clinical data such as gender, age, injured regions, the type of traumatic brain injury, the severity of traumatic brain injury, nature of brain injury and other risk factors were reviewed.Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used after univariate analysis. Results:Univariate analysis showed that the occurrence of PTE was associated with patients' age,the severity of brain injury, cerebral contusion and laceration, depressed skull fracture, and dural rupture, and intracranial hematoma. Multivariate logistic regression showed the risk factors related to PTE included the severity of brain injury, depressed skull fracture, and dural rupture. Conclusion:Traumatic brain injury patients who are younger and have severe brain injury, cerebral contusion and laceration, depressed skull fracture, dural rupture, and intracranial hematoma are likely to develop posttraumatic epilepsy.
