Title: Effect of cigarette smoke on expression of γ-GCS in bronchial epithelia cell
Abstract: Objective To investigate the effect of cigarette smoke on expression of γ-GCS in bronchial epithelia cells and the role of γ-GCS in the mechanism of chronic airway inflammation and oxidation/antioxidation imbalance of smoker. Methods 40 patients undergone bronchoscopy were equally divided into 4 groups: smoker with or without chronic bronchitis and non-smoker with or without chronic bronchitis. Bronchial epithelia cells were obtained during bronchoscopy. The expression of γ-GCSh in bronchial epithelia cells was measured by immunocytochemical method. Results The expression of γ-GCSh in bronchial epithelia cells in smoker with chronic bronchitis (0.216±0.120)was significantly decreased as compared with non-smoker with or without chronic bronchitis(0.426±0.111 and 0.589±0.220, respectively) and smoker without chronic bronchitis((0.386±0.175)(P0.05);②The expression of γ-GCSh in bronchial epithelia cell in smoker without chronic bronchitis (0.386±0.175)was significantly decreased as compared with non-smoker without chronic bronchitis (0.589±0.220)(P0.05);③The expression of γ-GCSh in bronchial epithelia cells in non-smoker with chronic bronchitis(0.426±0.111)was significantly decreased as compared with non-smoker without chronics bronchitis(0.589±0.220)(P0.05).Conclusion The expression of γ-GCSh in bronchial epithelia cells is the highgest in non-smoker without chronic bronchitis and decreased in the smoker with chronic bronchitis, suggesting γ-GCS play an important role in the chronic airway inflammation, oxidation stress and oxidation/antioxidation imbalance caused by cigarette smoke.
