Title: The Effects of Aqueous Extracts from Parthenium hysterophorus L.on Seed Germination and Seedling Growth of Vegetables
Abstract: [Objective]To study the allelopathy effect of aqueous extracts from Parthenium hysterophorus L.on seed and seedling of vegetables.[Method]Taking Brassica campestris and Cichaorium endivia as receptor plants, the effects of aqueous extracts from P.hysterophorus on seed germination and early seedling growth of vegetables were studied by indoor Petri-dish method.[Result]The results showed that aqueous extracts from different organs of P.hysterophorus restrained the seed germination of B.campestris and C.endivia in some extend, and this inhibition mostly became strong as the concentration of extractions increased. All the extracts from P.hysterophorus suppressed the root length of B.campestris and C.endivia, but had an accelerating effect on the seedling height. Also, the aqueous extracts had some allelopathic effect on fresh weight of the two vegetables, some for the promoting effects and some for the inhibit effects.[Conclusion]These primary research results might provide the basis for the study of the allelopathy mechanism of P.hysterophorus and the separation of allelochemicals in P.hysterophorus which inhibit the growth of other plants.
