Abstract:Objective To promote the efficacy of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy(ESWL) and prevent the complications.Methods Twenty-five patients with stone in upper urinary tract who were treated operative...Objective To promote the efficacy of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy(ESWL) and prevent the complications.Methods Twenty-five patients with stone in upper urinary tract who were treated operatively after failer ESWL in the period between 1995 and 2001 were studied retrospectively.The probable reasons for failer ESWL were analyzed and the indications of ESWL on urinary calculi were discussed again.Results Twenty-five patients with stone in upper urinary tract were treated by operation because of 2~4 times of failer ESWL.Mean stone size was 12mm×9mm.The probable reasons for failer ESWL were tract stenosis,polypous,obstruct of the tract,mislocation,misdiagnosis and larger stone.Conclusion ESWL is a safe and effective therapy for urolithiasis,but the case must be selected strictly in order to pervent the probable complications.Read More
